MAJOR PRESCRIBED ELECTIVES

Students can choose their four Major Prescribed Electives from more than one final year specialisation. Those who have read at least three Major Prescribed Electives from one final year specialisation will be deemed to have specialised. (Click here for contents of courses for Major Prescribed Electives)

Notes:

  1. Major Prescribed Electives are different from General Education Requirements - Prescribed Electives (GER-PE). Major Prescribed Electives provide more in-depth knowledge in specific areas of mechanical engineering. These are classified as final-year courses.
  2. The semester in which a Major Prescribed Elective is offered is subject to change.
  3. The class sizes of some Major Prescribed Electives are limited. Enrollment for such Major Prescribed Electives is on a first-come-first serve basis. Students must choose an alternative Major Prescribed Elective if there is no more vacancy for a particular Major Prescribed Elective.
  4. A Major Prescribed Elective may be cancelled when there are insufficient numbers of students or for other reasons.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - PRESCRIBED ELECTIVES (GER-PE)

General Education Requirements - Prescribed Electives are different from Major Prescribed Electives. These are cross-disciplinary courses in humanities & social sciences, management and business, life sciences and IT. These courses provide the required grounding in the broad areas of humanities, business and technological knowledge to better prepare our graduates for the new economy in the 21st century.

Direct-Entry students are required to offer 6 AUs of GER-PE to be selected from any combination of courses from the three categories namely Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (AHSS), Management & Business (MB) and Science, Technology & Society (STS).

Use Office of Academic Services Content of Courses webpage to search for the contents of these courses.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT - UNRESTRICTED ELECTIVES (GER-UE)

Direct-Entry Students (Non-Mechanical) will take 3 AUs of GER-UE.

Direct-Entry Students (Mechanical) will take 6 AUs of GER-UE.

GER-UE are courses that are NOT offered as Core, GER-PE or Major Prescribed Electives.

Click here for the list of GER-UE. Not all courses in the list are available.

Students who opt to read for a Minor will take the courses required to fulfill the requirements of the Minor in lieu of the GER-UE requirements.

Please refer to the OAS website for more information on reading Minors.
